Invicta FC 17 Preview

On May 7th, Invicta FC 17 will be taking place at The Hanger in Costa Mesa California.  This event will be headlined by a Bantamweight title bout featuring Colleen Schneider (10-6) and the current Bantamweight Champion Tonya Evinger (17-5).  This event will begin at 7pm ET and will be shown in its entirety on UFC Fight Pass.  The co-main event for this card is also a title bout.  Strawweight Angela Hill (4-2) will take on the Champ Livia Renata Souza (9-0).
Since winning the belt on July 9, 2015, Tonya Evinger has shown no sign of slowing down.  She is currently on an eight-fight win streak.  Her last fight, which was not characterized as a title defense since her opponent Pannie Kianzad did not make weight, ended with a TKO in the second round.  This ten year veteran of the sport seems to be in the prime of her career, and will get the chance to showcase her boxing skills against the grappler Schneider.
Colleen Schneider, the New York native, and 2014 Submission Grappling World Champion will be looking to continue her win streak with a win over the champ.  Her last win came over Raquel Pa’aluhi at Invicta FC 15 on January 16, 2016.  She won that fight via split decision.  She will be looking to take this fight to the ground against Evinger who has a background in boxing.
The co-main event will be an exciting fight between two top Strawweights.  This will be champion Livia Renata Souza’s second title defense since winning the belt at Invicta FC 12 on April 24, 2015.  She beat then-champ Katja Kankaanpaa via submission in the fourth round, which also won her a performance of the night bonus.  The Brazilian Souza is a very dominate fighter in this weight class with 8 of her 9 wins coming by stoppage, 7 of those being submissions.  Her last fight was a TKO victory over Deanna Bennett on January 16, 2016, also earning her a Performance of the Night bonus.
Her opponent Angela Hill is one of the brightest up and coming stars in the world of Women’s MMA.  As a former UFC TUF castmate, she has fought some of the toughest fighters in the UFC, including former champion Carla Esparza, Rose Namajunas, and Tecia Torres.  Hill is 2-0 since her release from UFC, coming to Invicta and rising to the top of the division with wins over Alida Gray, and Stephanie Eggink, both ending by KO.
