It looks that a Women’s bout will be the headliner for UFC Chicago on July 23. The former Bantamweight Champ will be taking on the #9 ranked Valentina Shevchenko, it what will surely be a fight to remember.
Holly Holm will be looking to make a come back following her title loss to now Champ Meisha Tate. Holm lost to Tate via rear naked choke in the final round of their fight at UFC 196 on March 5, 2016. Holm was hoping to receive a rematch with Tate at UFC 200 in July, but the UFC decided to grant a title shot to #4 Amanda Nunes. The Former boxing, and kickboxing champion will be looking to use her stand up skills to push the pace much like she has done in previous fights. She has been working to improve her grappling skill after being choked out by Tate in her last fight. She will be willing to go to the ground in an effort to redeem her ground skills and show that she is indeed ready for another chance at the title.
Her opponent Shevchenko is an up and coming former kickboxing champion herself. Her style will mix well with Holm’s stand up fighting. If this fight is show of skills on the feet, then Shevchenko will be quite at home. If the fight goes to the ground it may be Holm’s to lose again. The Russian native Shevchenko is 1-1 since coming to the UFC with her most recent fight being a loss to Amanda Nunes. With a win over Holm, she can rocket herself up the ranks and wait in line behind the list of title contenders.
