The co-main event of UFC 217 features two of the baddest bantamweights on the planet. They have been waiting to fight one another since this summer when they filmed The Ultimate Fighter season 25. Of course we are talking about champion Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw.
Unfortunately in the past few years there have been a number of fights that have been cancelled just days or hours before the fight. The UFC has begun having backup plans when it comes to fighter getting injured or becoming ill. For the co-main event of UFC 217 Dominick Cruz would be more than happy to fill that backup role.
Cruz spoke recently on the UFC Unfiltered podcast to give his thoughts on the fight between Garbrandt and Dillashaw, as well as his willingness to step in.
“If any one of these guys gets hurt I would like to slide in and challenge for the title, 100-percent,” Cruz said. “I don’t think either one of these two guys are going to pull out of that card. I think they will be there. And I hope they are so they can go out and get that fight done, I think it will be a fun fight regardless.”
Cruz was the last to challenge the undefeated Garbrandt and he would love the opportunity to get another shot at the title.
“I would prefer Cody to win, just because I’d like to fight him in a rematch for the belt,” he said “I think it would be a really sick fight and it would be good for me.”
